CHUUDEN TATEHIZA WAZA
|
Ukigomo ("Floating Cloud") begins facing to the left, in tatehiza. This one is best understood in terms of its bunkai (combat application): the iaidoka is seating in a group when attacked from the right by an enemy who attempts to seize his tsuka. As he rises, he must twist the tsuka of the sword out of the way, to avoid capture and to prevent catching it on any obstructions in the crowd. He must then draw and counter with a reinforced downward slash and kirioroshi. An intricate waza.
