Now think about this: if you don’t make the transcription factor (which is itself encoded by a gene somewhere else), RNA polymerase wouldn’t be able to bind and the gene wouldn’t be expressed. If you have a lot of that transcription factor floating around, then it’s always binding the promoter, polymerase is always settling down to transcribe that particular gene, and the gene gets expressed a lot.  This is an important principle to bear in the mind: transcription is a regulated process, and that regulation is absolutely critical to the normal function of the Quantum Meat. Gene expression is a complex process, with multiple levels of control, but the control of transcription is the most important. We’ll be talking more about it in just a bit.
