Finally, the new transcript gets spliced. Deep within the recesses of the nucleus, it runs into a complex of ribozymes (enzymes made of RNA instead of protein) called the spliceosome. The spliceosome is a sort of molecular cutting room, where entire regions of the message are hacked away. Now, why would the cell do this?
