Things to Come

Wow. We’ve covered a lot of ground. You guys are real troopers for hanging in there with the Butcher. In the last three issues we’ve worked our way up from atoms to recombinant insulin. That about does it for the Fundamentals. Oh, there’s plenty of basic stuff we haven’t covered—in fact, we’ve barely scratched the surface. But we’ll deal with other fundamental stuff as we go along. If you’ve read all three of the Fundamentals, you have the background you need to follow the Butcher into the Frontiers of Biology. In the next installment, we’ll be talking about something besides the Life Sciences, just to remind people that the Old Quantum Butcher dabbles in many different cuisines. After that, we’ll make our first foray into the Frontiers of Biology by examining how cells kill themselves—one of the hottest topics in science today, and our best hope for curing a whole smorgasbord of human diseases.
